Millionaire Chess is excited to introduce the Millionaire Chess Global Satellite Qualifiers, a series of qualification tournaments designed to give chess players worldwide the opportunity to compete in the most prestigious chess event in history. These satellite tournaments will offer players a chance to secure a spot in the 2nd Millionaire Chess Open, scheduled for October 8-12, 2015, at Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas. With a prize fund of $1,000,000, this event promises to be one of the largest chess tournaments ever held.
The satellite qualifiers will take place across the globe, organized by chess event organizers with a solid history of hosting competitive tournaments and promoting the game. Millionaire Chess shares the goal of growing chess worldwide, showcasing the intellectual power of the game to people of all ages.
By organizing these qualifiers, Millionaire Chess aims to elevate chess as the world’s greatest board game, recognizing the strategy, foresight, and brilliance involved in each game. Chess is played in over 180 countries, and MC hopes to expand its reach, hoping to include players from over 80 countries in its next event. The first Millionaire Chess Open attracted 560 players from 44 countries, and this year’s event is expected to be even more diverse.
Becoming a Satellite Event Organizer
Tournament organizers who wish to host a Millionaire Chess satellite event must contact MC via email at satellite@millionairechess.com. MC will conduct a thorough approval process to assess the organizer’s experience and reputation. Once approved, the event details will be listed on the MC website, ensuring that only official events are recognized as part of the MC Satellite Program.
To qualify as an official satellite event, organizers must meet the following criteria:
- Be an affiliate/member of their national chess federation in good standing.
- Have organized at least 8 Category C or higher-rated tournaments (with a minimum of 50 players each), directed by certified directors or licensed arbiters.
- Agree to adhere to Millionaire Chess rules regarding fair play, including anti-sandbagging and electronic device policies.
- Clearly define rules and conditions for each satellite event, subject to MC’s approval.
- Assume full responsibility for the satellite event and any legal matters arising from it.
- Submit the winner’s details to MC immediately after the tournament, with MC confirming their registration for the 2nd MCO within 5 business days.
- Agree to an 80/20 profit split for the first $1,000 raised in entry fees. For any revenue above that amount, MC will receive 30%.
- If the event fails to generate enough entry fees to cover the cost of the MC ticket, the event will revert to a non-qualifier tournament.
- Pay a one-time non-refundable application fee of $100.
- Ensure that the event runs between January 1 and August 31, 2015, and provide a website for registration.
