Steve Owlett

How has your life changed since you won one of the major prizes in the MCO?:
I have used the prize money to help promote chess in our rural area of Pennsylvania, pay some bills, and purchase chess lessons and study aids to become a better chess player.
How do your friends and family feel about you winning?:
My friends and family have been very excited and congratulatory about my winning. The comments on Facebook and even an article in our local newspaper have been a source of great pride.
Why did you decide to play in MC#1?:
After playing with my son and his friend at the World Open the last two years, I decided that it would be fun to go to Las Vegas and play in what would looked like the grandest chess tournament in the world. I was not disappointed. The MC Open far exceeded my expectations in terms of the quality of the players, the great staff, and the setting.
What did you most like about MC#1?:
I really enjoyed the other chess players and made some great friends.
What would you like to see different next year?:
I would enjoy having projection screens for more of the top games and even games of all levels, so we could watch other games and strategies. Also, there was some confusion about the prize monies, so perhaps more clarification of the rules, prizes, etc.
Will you attend MC#2 again next year?:
Absolutely…wouldn’t miss it!
